Apothecary - Tr. Capsici
Capsici is Latin plural of Capsicum, so Tr. CAPSICI is a tincture of the dried ripe fruits of Capsicum frutescens, more commonly know as Cayenne Pepper. Was used internally as a stimulant or topically as a rubefacient (a preparation that causes reddening of the skin). Still in use today, marketed as a cream, Zostrix, used to treat arthtritic disorders and neuropathies.
This jar is handpainted using underglazes on porcelain. The design is consistent with those found on 19th century apothecary jars. The terminology used is what would have been found on apothecary jars of the era.
Size:1 1/2" (38mm) tall by 1 1/16" (27mm) wide across handle to spout.
